Thought for the Day
“Who wants to become a writer? And why? Because it’s the
answer to everything. … It’s the streaming reason for living. To note, to pin
down, to build up, to create, to be astonished at nothing, to cherish the
oddities, to let nothing go down the drain, to make something, to make a great
flower out of life, even if it’s a cactus.”

This
quote sums up my obsession with putting words on paper. Writing runs in my blood and I’ve been at it since I was a little girl. My
paternal grandfather and my father were both writers and historians. My mother has been writing family stories and when Dad was alive she was his assistant as an editor, proofreader, and moral support. My sister and my cousin write poetry. My middle daughter has entered the blogging world recently and shows talent. Her blog is here:
Life has been full of drama, comedy, and everything in between and my years in a religious cult are rich with experience. I am compelled to share the story, to delve inside and bring forth the pearls of self reflection and wisdom. It takes courage to write the truth, even disguised as fiction and that’s the challenge. Inevitably someone won’t like what you have written, or another person will get offended even when that is not the intention. It is counterproductive to try to please
everyone, not to mention slightly ridiculous and for me, a source of writer’s
block. My answer is to write from my heart and let it flow, “to make a great
flower out of life, even if it’s a cactus.” Today, welcome to the desert!
